Get inside a huge cave to walk down to the infraworld as the old Mayas used to believe hundreds of years ago. These lovely caves are located in the municipality of Raxruhá in Alta Verapaz. You will have an amazing time full of adrenaline here. We will provide you all the safety equipment you need for it. Then, let yourself be smoothly carried away by the current of an underground river while doing tubing. Last but not least, drench in the natural pools roofed by natural rock formations. If you are staying at any hotel in or around Coban, then you have plenty of tour options to choose from and make the most of your time in the highlands of Guatemala. We suggest you visit the Candelaria Caves to the north of Cobán. Getting there will take us 2 hours, and you can enjoy beautiful landscapes, relax and learn curious facts about this region. The Candelaria Caves were discovered in 1974. They used to be a sacred place for the Mayan Q´eqchi´people of the region and nowadays it is a sanctuary for flora and fauna, and it has been declared a National Park. The caves are surrounded by lots of greenery and hills which are home to hundreds of animals. During this breathtaking adventure, we´ll walk down to the infraworld as the Mayans used to believe. Proof of that is all the numerous architectural elements that were discovered such as walls, stairs, platforms, cornices, graphic representations engraved on stones, among others. In addition to some ceramic items and artifacts found in them.
You will feel the time is short for all the activities you can do here. Starting with the adventure of walking inside these huge but charming caves. Then, drench in the natural pools roofed by the rock formations. By last, enjoy a relaxing tubing tour in the Candelaria River, and end this day with a flourish.
After our adventures in the Candelaria Caves and the river, we will go to the town of Chisec so you can have a delicious lunch. Enjoy your free time here and eat well to recharge your energies.
Returning to Cobán will take us approximately 2 hours. You can take advantage of this time to relax and enjoy the road and the beautiful views of this area full of green landscapes.
