These cays are a group of 15 small islands of coral origin.

This place is also called the Marine Sanctuary of Cochino Cays and consist of a relatively big island called Mayor Key, a smaller one called Minor Key, and 13 sandbanks. There is a Science Research Station in Minor Key and the Visitor´s Center as well, where all the information about the norms to follow to keep protecting this natural gem, are given.

We will visit 3 cayes and 2 islands during our visit, and we will go for a walk in search of the pink boa, native to these cays.

Getting to know the cays, their flora, fauna, people, and traditions, will take us the whole day. Enjoy the experience of getting to know the cays and the fun search for the pink boa.

Enjoy the snorkel we´ll do in the world´s second-largest coral reef. Here you can find corals of all kinds, colorful fish, shrimps, and a great variety of other species of animals that live here.

Also, taste the traditional Garifuna dishes. Garifuna is one of the cultures of Honduras and the Caribbean of Guatemala and Belize. Their origin comes from Africa, Saint Vincent Island, and the natives of the Caribbean. Get the chance to know more about their culture, language, traditions, and beliefs when we visit the 2 communities who live in the Cay zone.

To end our day of adventures, we will head back to the area of La Ceiba, where you will have free time to relax, enjoy the town, and prepare for the second day of our tour.

LA CEIBA

The second day will be dedicated to nature and all kinds of trees. We will visit the Lancetilla Botanical Garden, located in the city of Tela, around 2 hours away from La Ceiba.

Sit back and enjoy the ride and the scenery while we get there.

We will get to Lancetilla, one of the largest botanical gardens in Latin America. Its name comes from the abundance of a small palm with spear-shaped thorns. In Spanish thorns are called "lanzas", and "Lancetilla" is derived from that name.

The garden is popular for its wide variety of tropical flowers, as well as fruit, timber, and medicinal trees.

Some fruit is used to make and sell bottles of liquor. The artisanal liquor is made by a local community with the same name as the park, Lancetilla.

Don´t miss the chance to take some pictures in the iconic bamboo corridor, learn, and have a fantastic day here.

After appreciating the number of trees and other plants and animals that live here, we will go have a delicious lunch to end the day the best way.
