The name Chilasco means “Dark Mountains” in the Mayan language Poqomchi since the waterfalls that we´ll find here are surrounded by a big amount of trees, flowers, and ferns that turn the mountains deep green.
We´ll start our journey by walking in the middle of the cloud forest. This is a perfect place to know a virgin forest that has not been chopped down and that is home to hundreds of birds and mammals. The Cloud Forest is the habitat of the Resplendent Quetzal, Guatemala´s national bird, and also, toucans, Pink-headed Warblers (Cardellina Versicolor), Azure-rumped Tanagers (Tangara cabanisi), among other beautiful birds.
On our way down to see the Chilasco waterfall, we´ll see El Saltito Waterfall which is the small brother of the two. El Saltito transmits a sensation of peace and calm, if you feel like it, you can immerse in its freshwaters. Then, we´ll continue walking until getting to El Salto waterfall.
Then, after some more minutes walking in the forest, we´ll find the El Salto de Chilasco Waterfall which is the main attraction of today´s tour. This is one of the biggest waterfalls in Guatemala and Central America, it is 130+ mt long. We´ll give you free time here so you can appreciate the beautifulness of the waterfall, take pictures, relax and enjoy.
After your free time enjoying the view of the cloud forest and the stunning waterfall, we´ll enjoy a delicious lunch box at the edge of the waterfall.
Afterward the great time in enjoying El Salto and El Saltito Waterfalls, we´ll walk back to where we left the bus. The bus pilot will be waiting for us to take you safe and sound back to your hotel. Walking back to the bus will take us 2 hours.
On our way back to your hotel, you have the chance to relax and take a nap, or maybe you prefer to take photos of the marvelous landscapes of Las Verapaces, the time is yours.
The last point in our itinerary is to take you back to your hotel in Coban.
