This city was occupied from 200 to 900 AD. and is the owner of one of the most beautiful works of Mayan art that exists. Here you will appreciate stelae, monuments, a Great Plaza, Acropolis, Ball Court, and more.
One of the tallest Mayan stelae ever found was discovered in this city, and today we see it embodied in the Guatemalan 10 cent coin.

Quirigua is a small city that belonged to the ancient Mayan Civilization, located near the Motagua River, it allowed them to have a privileged place for maritime trade and communication with other Mayan cities such as Copán in Honduras. Today this city is considered a World Heritage Site by UNESCO. This city was occupied from 200 AD. And it is believed that it was by Mayans from the great City of Tikal. The construction of its acropolis began around the year 550 AD. Years later, Quirigua was subordinated to the City of Copan for control of trade routes. The magnificent architecture and its breathtaking monuments represent their greatest leaders. The most incredible thing is that they were made without the use of metal tools. This is a magnificent fortress built in the 17th century to protect the city from pirates and other invaders.
