The original Mayan name for the city was Itzmal which means “dew falling from heaven”. Something interesting to know is that this was not a Mayan warrior city, it was a sacred city where people went to worship. However, after the Spanish conquer, the Mayan constructions were destroyed to use their rocks to build the Spanish buildings that we get to see nowadays.
