Our expert guide will take you with one of the local fishermen, there you will get on an artisanal boat and travel for a few minutes to the area where they frequently fish. You can learn all the necessary techniques to fish yourself. Our guide will be with you all the time and will give you interesting information about this activity. MEET UP POING: XOCOLATL IN SAN JUAN LA LAGUNA
We meet our guests at the “Xocolatl” Chocolate store in San Juan La Laguna, very close to the town’s main dock. You can get to San Juan on your own or we can arrange a boat transfer for you for an additional cost. Please message us so we can quote the transfer cost depending on your location.
Once you arrive in Santiago Atitlan, our expert guide will be waiting for you to start this adventure. We want this to be an experience where you have contact with the people of the community and for this, we will take you with a resident of Santiago Atitlan, he will take us on his Kayuko (artisanal boat with paddle) to the fishing area. This person will have the bait ready at your arrival so as soon as you get to Santiago, you will learn all the processes for artisanal fishing.
Our fisherman will take us to the fishing area. This will be an interactive tour, so you will learn the type of bait they use, how to throw the fishing net correctly, and you will be able to make your own attempts to fish. We are sure that you will love this tour and it will be a different and interactive activity that you can do on the lake.
After our wonderful fishing tour, you will be able to appreciate the beautiful views of the lake and its 3 volcanoes while we will take you back to the Santiago Atitlan pier. Once you are in the town, you can take advantage of the time there and walk, visit its market and meet its people. This is an excellent place to buy handicrafts at a very convenient price!
