Overview

This tour is a combination of natural beauty and history. Get ready to have a day full of adventure, fun, and knowledge. We will visit the Castle of San Felipe and the Eco-Park of El Boquerón.

These two places have a mix of breathtaking views, history, and nature. Our first stop is not far from Río Dulce, the Castle of San Felipe. A fortress built in the 17th century by the Spanish who wanted to repel the attacks of English and Dutch pirates. Its construction was authorized by King Felipe II of Spain to prevent the theft of goods that went from Guatemala to Spain and were then marketed in that country and in the rest of Europe.

Then, we will go to the Boquerón Ecological Park. A protected area where you can walk among nature, go to any of its two viewpoints to appreciate impressive views and take a boat ride in the river between two immense stone walls.

You can bathe in the refreshing waters of the river and enjoy yourself in the middle of nature.

Itinerary

RIO DULCE

We will start this wonderful tour from Río Dulce, a magical place full of natural beauty in Izabal. Our private bus and tour guide will be waiting for you to travel to our first destination, The Castle of San Felipe. The trip will take us just a couple of minutes, to enjoy the little trip and get ready to appreciate the beauty of this castle.

SAN FELIPE CARIBBEAN CASTLE

This is one of the most emblematic castles in Latin America. The Castle of San Felipe de Lara was built by the Spanish against English pirates lurking in the Caribbean.

The castle was built in the middle of the 17th century. This fortress, in addition to fulfilling the function of a military center, functioned as a prison and customs center. Today, this monument is part of a corridor of castles on the Atlantic coast.

The castle tour is very informative, and its history takes you to its beginning and battles against the pirates.

After this visit, we will return to our bus and begin our journey until we reach the beautiful Eco-Park of El Boquerón. Getting to the Boquerón area will take us only 1 hour. Buckle up and take advantage of this time to appreciate the natural beauty along the way.

EL BOQUERON NATIONAL PARK

Once we arrive at El Boquerón, its exuberant and abundant nature will fascinate you. We will walk a section of 800 meters until we reach the river, where we will get on wooden-made kayaks to navigate between the great rock walls.

El Boquerón is a place where a river passes surrounded by rock walls up to 100 meters high with figures of animals, we challenge you to find the figure of the turtle, and the human face. In addition, its crystal clear water makes it a natural paradise. This place is rarely visited since it is not well known by tourists.

Don't forget to appreciate nature, in both, the trails and the viewpoints. There is a great variety of plants and animals here. Going up to the viewpoints takes approximately 40 minutes, but it is totally worth it, you will have impressive views. At some points along the way, you may even spot howler monkeys and be amazed by the force of their cries. It is a spectacle of nature.

Do not forget to bring water shoes and your swimsuit.

EL BOQUERON

Inside the Ecological Park, there is a nice and cozy restaurant with delicious food and drink options. We invite you to relax and recharge your batteries.

RIO DULCE

At the end of the day, board our comfortable bus and get ready to return to your hotel in Río Dulce. Take this time to relax and enjoy the ride. Thank you very much for traveling with us.
